Australian company BioPlant is finalizing contracts with the City of Geelong to build waste-to-energy plants in the city, to deal with 320 tons per day of MSW.
As Geelong's population grows, so to has its urgency to dispose of MSW, currenlty dumped into landfill sites across the city. In a positive for the City of Geelong, the Council has agreed to reduce landfill and look at renewable energy technology.
GGII will supply 8 x modular pyrolysis plants to BioPlant which will be able to produce and deliver 480MW of electricty into the Geelong City grid, affecting providing clean energy to 10,000 homes in the city.
"Not only we will we be able to help Geeloing stop the terrible practice of landfill but more importantly this project will be capable of reducing emissions of up to 160,000 tons of green house gases each year, which is equivalent of taking more than 34,000 cars off the roads."said Allan Clarke, Chairman of GGII.
BioPlant has said that it is aiming to have the project operating and commmisined by the 3rd quarter of 2020.
